She heard the sound of feet down the hall and knew her morning solitude was about to be broken. When Jack slid into the room laughing, she smiled in reaction until she saw his companion.

The man brought about too many feelings to count. Dealing with him on half a cup of coffee was just not fair. And of course, he looked amazing. All that messy hair, his bedroom eyes, and the stubble he hadn’t shaved…how was a woman supposed to ignore all that beauty?

“Morning, Miss Meghan. How are you this morning?” Jack asked, drawing her attention away from Logan.

“I’m very fine indeed, Sir Jack.”

He giggled like he always did. “I am not a sir.”

She widened her eyes. “But you are the son of Angus, are you not?”

His smile grew. “I am.”

She looked up at Logan. “Good morning.”

“That’s your opinion,” he mumbled as he headed for the coffee. It was out of character for the artist. He’d always seemed to be in a good mood until the last few days.

“Did you wake Logan?” she asked Jack.

“Yes, but I needed to wake him. I had a dream,” he said sounding more like the solemn boy Maggie had told her about.

“Oh, don’t you know not to let dreams bother you.”

“Some of Jack’s dreams are premonitions,” Logan said as he placed his coffee at the head of the table. Where she liked to sit. Bugger.

“I understand. But, if they are premonitions, there is nothing we can do about it now.” Meg knew that better than anyone and had paid a steep price. She returned her attention to Jack. “So, Sir Jack, what would you like for breakfast?”

“I can get my own,” he announced.

Logan, for his part, had prowled over to the sideboard to get himself some food. As she had thought before, he hadn’t been what she would have pegged as a stereotypical artist. He had the look. But, his temperament had been one of well, a normal, every day person. Artists, and she had dealt with more than one in her day, tended to be moody and well, more trouble than they were worth. Meg didn’t like moody men. She liked them to be happy and somewhat needy because that’s how she had earned her living for so long.

Still, it was hard to ignore the way he moved, or those long, artist’s fingers as. She could just imagine what he could do with those. Lord, to feel them dance over her flesh …

Jack made a sound and he was looking at her strangely. Oh, bugger. The boy could definitely read thoughts from time to time.

“What else is on your mind this morning, Jack?” she asked as she sipped on her coffee.

He shrugged as he sat down to the table and started to eat his bacon. He chewed for a few seconds, then said, “Did you know that Logan sleeps without any clothes on?”

She choked, spewing a bit of her coffee. “Does he indeed?”

“Spilling all my secrets, Jack?” Logan asked.

“I didn’t know it was a secret. You have to tell me. Besides, Miss Meghan was thinking about …”

“Never mind about that, Jack. Get to eating,” she ordered, hoping Logan didn’t notice her blush.

From an early age, USA Today Bestselling Author Melissa loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.

Since the publication of her first book in 2004, Melissa has had close to fifty romances published. She writes in genres from historical suspense to modern day erotic romance to futuristics and paranormals. Included in those releases is the bestselling Harmless series. In 2011, Melissa branched out into self-publishing with A Little Harmless Submission and the popular military spinoff, Infatuation: A Little Harmless Military Romance. Along the way she has garnered an epic nomination, a multitude of reviewer’s recommended reads, over five Capa nods from TRS, three nominations for AAD Bookies and regularly tops the best seller lists on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Since she spent her childhood as a military brat, Melissa swore never to marry military. But, as we all know, Fate has her way with mortals. She is married to now retired AF major and is raising her own brats, both human and canine. She spends her days giving in to her addiction to Twitter and spends her days thankful for their new home and the short trip to Wegmans.

Attempted Murder.

Aurora Alexander is everything headlines are made of.

After a string of unsuccessful blind dates, she turns to internet dating.
Everyone does it, so it has to be safe. Right?

My Review
This book in 8 words of less …

For the first time I am trying something new … reviewing a book while I’m reading it. Usually I wait until everything is read and completely finished before putting my thoughts to paper … well let’s see if this way is more fun and interactive with what I’m reading and what my thoughts might be. So be prepared for this review to have spoilers.

Reading along and living vicariously through Aurora as she travels along this dating journey to discover Prince Charming I can’t help but get attached to these guys. Brent is perfect with his own adorable son and just like Aurora I can see him as being my BFF … only a male version. LoL! Next we have Wesley who is sexy and confident but has a cocky disposition at times that grates my last nerve but apparently has skills that wouldn’t have me kicking him out of my bed without taking a ride first. And then there is Jackson who is so freaking sweet and romantic but is still in touch with his inner child and can have fun even if it means getting his ass kicked by a girl in mini golf and go karts. See what I mean? How could you not be attracted to these guys? They’re freakin’ … YUMMY!

Well little do I realize while I’m in my lust bubble over Jackson and continue reading Statistic … BAM creep factor is introduced. Someone nefarious is creeping in the background and I am thinking it is the quiet one Jeremy who Aurora has only talking to a few times over the dating site’s messenger service. At this point I am currently 33% into the book so let’s see what the ever awesome Dawn Robertson has in store for us next.

Holy … Shut the Front Door! I am almost 66% finished with Statistic and let me tell you … I am so freaking in love with Jackson! Not only is he romantically sweet while being protective and gentlemanly, dear sweet Jackson is a dirty talker! After this discovery all I can say is two words … OVARY EXPLOSION!

Alrighty enough reviewing for now I’ve got to get back to the ever delectable Jackson and see if his cock really is made of magical wonder.

Son of a biscuit eater! I’m about 75% done and I’m like Whiskey Tango Foxtrot … the person I have suspected to be the mysterious creeper aka Jeremy is actually Jackson’s little brother! Holy freakin’ shite! So wasn’t expecting that Dawn! And now I am at a fork in the road … the person I thought was the creeper might not be the creeper and yet might still be because I have only just discovered this earth shattering news and who I thought was the BFF might actually be the real creeper of this tale. The tension is sky rocketing high here folks and the shit is getting real. So I’m off … on the edge of my seat gnawing my nails down to the quick to see where Dawn is taking me now.

Okay I’m 90% through this book and I couldn’t be more confused … my mind is a complete whirlwind of thoughts that I don’t know which direction is the right one. At first I think there is just one creeper and as the pages turn my thoughts on who that person is has become clear … Mr. BFF. But as I read on I get this feeling that something isn’t right … that me, figuring out that it was Professor Plum in the library with the rope was just too easy of a mystery to solve. So now I think there is a second creeper involved. Let’s continue on and discover what the conclusion of Statistic will reveal.

Holy fuckin’ shit! I have finished Statistic and I couldn’t be more fucking shocked by the ending if I was bit in the ass with a cattle prod. As I sit here with a tear-stained face my mind is totally fuckin blown! Dawn Robertson is known for surprising twists and unexpected turns in her books that I shouldn’t be shaking my head while saying “What the fuck …” right now but damn it is just too unavoidable. I reread the epilogue numerous times because my shocked brain refused to believe what was finally revealed. I know I have dropped some spoilers but I am not revealing the surprise ending … from reading this review you know who I have been rooting for to capture Aurora’s heart but damn Dawn did you have to screw with me like that! If you want to know what the shock value was that made this book my favorite Robertson book by far you are just going to have to buy it and I apologize for the language but my vulgarity just exemplifies the shock factor that my idled brain has found itself to be in right now.

Everyone has secrets. No one has secrets like Watts.

Catherine Kolb has found the perfect diversion from her life of nearly complete seclusion: a virtually anonymous correspondence with a man she knows only as “Watts.” Intelligent, intriguing, and with an insatiable appetite for sex, his words begin to draw her out of her closely guarded world.

Watts insists on privacy. He has no choice. In the wrong hands, his secrets could get people killed.Including him. And Catherine.

But curiosity and lust prove stronger than reason and safety. A planned one-time encounter sets into motion a series of events that bring Catherine and Watts to the edge of ecstasy and the brink of peril.

Two very private people. One risky night. A shot at love and redemption.

Due to mature themes, this book is recommended for readers 18+.

The situation was risky enough, and now I was dealing with the fact that she worked for what many people consider the world’s premier law enforcement agency.

I decided I needed to check her out. So as I left early Sunday morning, with Catherine still asleep in her bed, I found her purse where it always was—on the kitchen counter. I quickly rummaged through her stuff, found her wallet and got her name off of her driver’s license.

Catherine Marie Kolb.

On the drive home I made a phone call to Justin, a guy who occasionally did a little work for me.

I gave him Catherine’s name and birthdate, telling him all I needed was any information regarding her connections to the FBI or any other law enforcement or intelligence agencies. I asked him to keep it quiet.

“Don’t I always?” he asked. “You don’t need to tell me that, dude.”

“This is different. It’s personal.”

“Not for me,” he said. “My lips are sealed. Usual hundred bucks, dude.”

“You got it.” Dude.

I had been introduced to Justin by one of my associates. He was a grad student at Boston University, and apparently some kind of computer whiz who had turned down job offers from Microsoft, Apple, and various smaller tech firms right out of high school, opting instead to go to college. Smart kid. Damn brilliant, actually, and very eager to help out. For a small fee, of course.

Justin could get in and out of any computer in the world without leaving a trace. That’s what he claimed, at least. I wasn’t sure how true that was, but whenever I needed something that turned out to be deep within a highly secured computer network, Justin had been able to get it.

As I drove home, I mentally kicked my own ass for not having done due diligence before spending this much time with Catherine. She had given me no reason to suspect that she worked for a law enforcement agency. She’d given me no reason to believe she did anything other than some boring clerical job.

Just as I was entering the city of Baltimore, forty minutes later, my phone rang.

“She’s clean,” Justin said. “All she does is work in the department that scans incoming parcels. Sounds boring as shit, if you ask me.”

“No other jobs with the Bureau?”

“None. And no previous law enforcement or military activity. But there is something odd.”

I pulled up to a red light. “What’s that?”

“Catherine Marie Kolb didn’t exist until eight years ago.”

My Review
This book in 8 words of less …

Ever since I heard that Reynard was writing a third installment to Gabriel’s Inferno I was beyond excited with euphoria and jubilation! Forget the Christian Grays, Gideon Crosses and Kellan Kyles of the world because Gabriel Emerson is freakin’ GOD when it comes to alpha dominance. His magnetism is just too addictive to contain! Just thinking about him all over again has it hot in here … please excuse me while I fan myself to douse down the flames of my very naughty thoughts. Oh wait, I can’t because Gabriel is like a chocolate truffle, a sinfully delectable morsel that I would devour slowly just to savior his unique flavor and feast on his exquisite deliciousness that would ultimately leave me wanting more. I just want more. I just want more.

From start to finish this book is just absolute awesome sauce! At the beginning we find our couple six months into their marriage trying to make a home living near Harvard which is where Julianne is currently attending and following her dreams to be a Dante Specialist while Gabriel is a professor at Boston University. While married life has been blissfully filled with unbelievably scorching sex reality has Julianne under some pressure. She has made a name for herself in the academic world and has been invited to speak at a conference in England. The strain of this anxiety has her questioning herself but with the support of her friends, among them Paul (oh, how I love you too), her Virgil has her confidence shining through. The time spent in England for this conference is one of my most favorite parts. We see friends and nemeses alike and lots of feelings are expressed through the drama that escalates.

Gabriel and Julianne have given each another strength and compassion needed to heal wounds from their past but when Gabriel expresses his desire to start a family with Julianne some of her fears that aren’t fully forgotten being to surface. Wanting to focus and finish her studies first causes her to develop feeling of guilt and fear of disappointing Gabriel and his happiness. Meanwhile with Gabriel wanting a child of his own he walks a path that has him facing some of his own buried demons in regards to his own bloodline. Doubt can be a fickle bitch and the fear of losing what you love is the heart of this story. Faith and forgiveness to go hand in hand and redemption cannot be won by actions alone.

Final Thoughts

Reynard has made Gabriel and Julianne’s journey both haunting and pleasurable. To forget a love such as theirs is simply unfeasible. I can pretty much state as fact that if you begin this series you will fall for this ensemble of characters as much as I have and anyone would positively agree. Now I would like to thank Mr. Reynard for creating this sacred love story and may my dreams be filled with a delectable Professor Emerson of my own.,

Gabriel-as-SylvainI’m interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition – particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I’m also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Twitter account.

Fortunately, Dale is an accomplished Master who can help her accept the true nature of her submission, rather than how she’s tailored it to meet the expectations of others. “Maybe, depends what the handsome gay man is willing to bring to the table,” I say with a cheeky grin.

“Normally it would be two out of the three important c’s, cronuts and chardonnay, but lucky for you, it promises to be a very lucky night for me. I have a date with a six foot tall, hard as rock body, Puerto Rican man who has expressed an interest in all things Nate. So it looks like I might get a C of my own tonight.”

My Review
This book in 8 words of less …

Cold Blooded was ABS-SO-FREAKIN-LUTELY AMAZING and in my opinion by far the most preeminent release of the Jessica McClain series!! When I was finished I was still tingling with elation from how everything in the book concluded for Jessica and her pack of misfits. TINGLES! That’s how wonderfully mind-blowing this book was. To be honest I didn’t want it to end. I was so engrossed in this book that it was hard for me to except that I had finished it.

Okie doke let’s do a relatively quick recap for the newbies … Jessica McClain is one of a kind, literally, the only full blooded female in her pack, her father is Alpha and long with her brother Tyler they try to protect Jessica as best as they can until all goes to hell. Other Sups from various Sects become aware of who she truly is and want to hunt her down for their own nefarious reasons. Among them are a pack of rogue wolves looking to overthrow the Alpha and just happen to be running with Vampires. After a brutal showdown where Jessica discovers some of her new powers she is left making an outrageous agreement with the Vampire Queen.

This brings us to Hot Blooded where Jessica sets out on a mission to rescue her delicious mate Rourke with the aid of her brother, fellow pack member Danny, two Vampires guides and a very grumpy sarcastic human detective. Along their journey they come across various obstacles that are trying to prevent them from reaching Rourke … killer bats, spiders as big as cats, sea wraiths and possessed goats were just some of the delights they had to deal with. The awesomeness doesn’t end there. Next up is an epic battle with a crazed Lunar Goddess who is hell-bent on keeping Rourke as her slave lover. If that wasn’t enough of a complication Jessica crosses paths with a High Lord Demon who’s there to demand retribution and delivers some startling news … a court date in hell. Muahaha! But you see Jessica’s no naive pup. She manages to temporarily wiggle her way out of that predicament simply to arrive at home to find a very pissed off witch looking for answers because her best friend Marcy and her father’s second in command James are missing.

Now we are up to Cold Blooded and I don’t want to spoil too much but I will tell you that it picks up right where Hot Blooded ended. Two people Jessica cares for are missing and at the same time explosions rock everyone off their feet and into the bushes … well her and Tally end up in the bushes. Not knowing where she should begin Jessica takes a chance on the witches and this is where the action begins. Time is of the essence. With just a few short weeks left until Jessica has to hold up her end of the bargain she made with the Vampire Queen she must figure out why sorcerers are chucking exploding blue orbs of magic at her, why they kidnapped her best friend, and what the hell the sorcerers want with her in the first place. As usually nothing goes as planned and Jessica has to seek help from unlikely sources that even managed to surprise me.

As mush as I love Jessica I have to admit most of my fan girl moments are aimed towards the secondary characters that at times steal Jessica’s thunder. Falling into this camp of misfits are Rourke, Danny, Naomi, Tyler, and shockingly Ray. Out of everyone my heart belongs to Rourke and I couldn’t have been more tickled pink then I was while reading Cold Blooded. My man got the much needed face time he deserves … not that I wouldn’t have enjoyed more but what I did get to witness … oh mama did it get hot in here … excuse me while I fan myself to douse down the flames of my very naughty thoughts. Oh wait, I can’t because Rourke is like a chocolate truffle, a sinfully delectable morsel that I would devour slowly just to savior his unique flavor and feast on his exquisite deliciousness that would ultimately leave me wanting more. I just want more. I just want more.

In addition to what we discover about Rourke, Ray also shares the spotlight in this installment. So many questions are signing around in my head about his character that I don’t even know which one to investigate first. It’s just totally surprising the role his character has taken and by the end of Cold Blooded Ray wormed his way into my heart. I am very interested in the unique path that has been set for him. Take my word for it, if you don’t read this book for anything else you have to read it for the secrets and mysteries that are revealed about not only Ray and Rourke, but Eudoxia the Vampire Queen as well.

Series Questions …

• If Summit Entertainment came to you about turning your series into a movie or a television show 1) which would you prefer were made and 2) who would make the cut for your fantasy cast?

Normally I would’ve said movie, but with True Blood, The Walking Dead, and The Game of Thrones on TV they’ve brought series television to an entirely new level. Either would be spectacular, really.

As for casting, I’m totally bad at this game, because I don’t have a concrete image in my mind for any of my characters, and I really love it when readers come up with their own interpretations. That said, I’d have to say Jess would be a cross between a young Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jennifer Garner, and Rourke would be a cross between Tom Hardy and Chris Hemsworth.

• If you have to pick one romantic scene or couple to recommend to a first time reader of your books, which or who would it be and why?

If I’m recommending a new series/books to readers who have read my books, and are looking for more hot romances and couples, I would recommend anything by Kresley Cole. You can’t go wrong.

• Which book of your series has been your most favorite to write and which has been your most frustrating?

Each one has become the favorite while I’m writing it. I think that’s true for many authors. You fall in love with the book you’re currently working on, and if it’s not better than the last, then that may be an indication something may have gone wrong, LOL. I haven’t had any serious frustrations writing this series yet. Every book has been so much fun. But possibly books in the future may be a little more frustrating because I have to make sure I get all my facts straight.

• In your opinion, what makes your series different from others Urban Fantasies that are out there?

I always try to put my own spin on anything I do, and the same is true for my books. I’m also heavy on action and humor with a slant toward strong family bonds. A lot of books out there can be very dark, but mine tend to be light and happy. I love that Jessica has a strong family and her friends are invaluable.

Author Questions …

• What is the most unique or most ugliest item you own and why do you keep it?

Probably the rugs my dad designed are the most unique and wonderful. He’s an architect and an accomplished artist (his artwork is equally as awesome). He has designed one of a kind rugs and they were woven in Nepal. So gorgeous and fun.

• What are you reading right now or what books have you had your eye on that you haven’t had time to read?

I’m reading Amanda Bonilla’s new UF series VENGANCE BORNE. It’s awesome!

•Who do you think is the sexiest Supernatural (male and female not of your own) from a movie or book?

How about the sexiest guy who kills Supernaturals??? I have an ongoing deep infatuation with Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead right now. I’m also waiting for Tom Hardy to play a superhero, not a supervillan. Though, Chris Helmseworth as Thor was awesome. I guess I’d have to say Thor because I’m excited to see the movie.

• What are some (if any) of the quirks or habits you find yourself doing when you are writing?

To clear my head between scenes often times I play Candy Crush. I used to play Scrabble, but CC is a shorter break. I also wear industrial headphones, the kind air traffic controllers wear when I want to go into a zone.

Oh Amanda … how you make me chuckle! Thank you such much for stopping by and sharing with us Jessica McClain Fans.

Thank you so much for hosting me today! So excited COLD BLOODED is out in the wild.
Hope anyone who’s considering starting the series enjoys it and to all my fans, thanks for reading!

About the Author

amanda carlson I’m a Minnesota girl, born and bred. I started writing stories about teenage girls and their social missteps when I was in high school. I still have the handwritten spiral notebooks to prove it.

I started writing in earnest after my second child was born. After purchasing our first computer, I thought to myself, what better way to spend my time than e-mailing unsuspecting family members super cute stories about my exceptionally darling children? Isn’t that what computers were made for anyway?

The writer in me stretched and gave a defiant shove. I was hooked.

I jumped into writing classes, joined local writing chapters, organized author book signings, joined critique groups and participated in conferences. I had a blast writing a column in a local food & wine publication, and eventually tied together all my parenting stories into one full compilation.

My first fiction attempt was a contemporary romance, but I couldn’t seem to find the story. After my kids starting bringing home YA urban fantasy, I suddenly knew where my passion for fiction writing had been hiding. It was inside the action packed pages of an Urban Fantasy novel. Reading each new series was so much fun, I quickly realized this genre brought something to the storyline I hadn’t really seen before. It brought a hefty shot of adrenaline combined with a side of female kickass, all combined with that element of “other” I found so intriguing.

After reading YA, I picked up every adult UF I could get my hands on and I’ve been fully immersed in this genre ever since. On occasion I still pick up a “regular” book. But for the most part I find them lacking in superpowers and the excitement of the unexpected.

I started FULL BLOODED because kickass heroines rock and I love shifters of all kinds. There aren’t enough warm-blooded girls to go around, in my opinion. I fell into Jessica’s story and had such a great time writing it. I couldn’t imagine writing anything other than urban fantasy now.

When you’re creating a story in this fantastic genre, it can contain almost any elements you can dream up. Creatively, for me, there’s nothing better.

Now I think it’s about time to share it with all of you.

Amanda is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, with a BA in both Speech and Hearing Science & Child Development. She went on to get an A.A.S in Sign Language Interpreting and worked as an interpreter until her first child was born. She enjoys playing Scrabble to an unhealthy degree, shopping trips to Ikea and has a great weakness for tropical beaches. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and three kids.
