{January 17, 2014}   Let’s Play 20 Questions with Heather Long …

Hey everyone, today is a special day here at Zany PNR Addict. What’s happening you may ask? Well my lovelies we had the opportunity to sit down with Heather Long and pick her brain. This is super exciting because following our game of 20 questions I will be sharing my review of her book Some Like it Royal. The first in her Going Royal Series.

Let give a warm welcome to Heather and see wants hidden …

• What sound or noise tends to drive you nuts?

One Direction. No, I’m not kidding. Eight hours in the car with the Mini, she played it nonstop. I was ready to throw myself out the window.

• What is your least favorite word?

No. Come on, isn’t it everyone’s?

• What profession other than being an author would you like to attempt?

Hum. I have studied law, journalism, and psychology (and not in that order) so probably psychologist.

• What profession would you not want to be caught doing?

Professions don’t bother me, though I figure if someone made me an accountant that would be bad. NUMBERS.

• What city could you get lost in for hours to explore?

All of them. Oh, you mean like lost, lost? Um … all of them.

• What are you reading right now or what books have you had your eye on that you haven’t had time to read?

Reading Sarah MacLean at the moment, and counting it down to the next Patricia Briggs and Nalini Singh.

• What book/s do you urge readers to read?

Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. I will not shut the hell up about it.

• What item must you have with you at all times?

My brain. Trust me, the days I’ve been without it have SUCKED.

• Name one thing about yourself that would surprise most people?

O.o if I tell you then it’s not a SURPRISE!

• What is something you like to collect?

Dust. I mean I must, I have a crapton of it.

• What is the most unique or ugliest item you own and why do you keep it?

I’m really not supposed to say bad things about people.

• If you have to pick one romantic scene or couple to recommend to a first time reader of your books, which or who would it be and why?

The first kiss scene in Some Like it Royal. That scene cracks me up EVERY single time I read it. I think I outdid myself. I agree … my absolute favorite moment!

• Which book of your series has been your most favorite to write and which has been your most frustrating?

They are all my favorites when I write them. Most frustrating? Wanted Alive or Fevered. I swore it was going to be a novella. 100,000 words later, I guess not.

• In your opinion, what makes your books different from others out there?

The characters. These are people I could know or you could. I try to make them real and keep them grounded in what makes us quirky and crazy.

• What are some (if any) of the quirks or habits you find yourself doing when you are writing?

Not sleeping.

• Boxers, briefs or commando?

Oh! I’ll take one man in each please!

• Tattoos or piercings?

• Soft, sensual make out session or throw you up against the wall?

Let me research this to give you the best answer …

• Rough and ready cowboy or billionaire in a sharp suit?

Yes I guess that means she will take one of each. LoL!

• Vampire or Werewolf?

Yes Again, one of each. I mean I would too! LoL!

Well my lovelies I hope you enjoyed yourselves in getting to know Heather a litter better. Now on with the review!

Book Summary (courtesy of GoodReads)

It’s The Role of a Lifetime …

Living out of a car and waiting tables to make ends meet is hardly the stuff of fairy tales. So when a gorgeous man approaches Alyx Dagmar with a wild story about her royal lineage and an even wilder proposition, the aspiring actress is sure he’s got the wrong woman.

Self-made billionaire Daniel Voldakov needs connections before he can expand his software business into Europe. A blue-blooded fiancée would open all the right doors — and Daniel’s certain he can tempt the pretty but penniless Princess Alyxandretta to accept the part she was born to play.

Alyx can’t resist Daniel’s offer, and throws herself into the role. But as the paparazzi fall in love with their “storybook romance,” Alyx finds herself drawn to Daniel in ways she’d never imagined. Are his returned affections true, or all just part of the plan? He’ll do anything it takes to prove his love, and to make her see that the only happily ever after he wants is with her … the real her.

My Review
This book in 8 words of less …

Where to start? To say I love this story is an understatement of epic portions because I haven’t enjoyed a Contemporary Romance of this magnitude in a very long time. Some Like It Royal is a modern day fairy tale come to life in the most unexpected way. The evolution of the main characters in this story are both true to form as it is refreshing. Though we readers know Daniel and Alyx have a shared attraction towards each other the subtly of how Ms. Long approaches these feelings is written naturally with the right amount of sizzle and banter. The witticisms exchanged between Daniel and Alyx are some of the cleverest and inventive lines I’ve read in a long time. One of the most memorable scenes for me and perhaps one among my many favorites is the awkward and clumsy first kiss between Daniel and Alyx. So much fun and good laughs were shared during this chapter.

For your viewing pleasure I was lucky enough to find a clip featuring awkward kisses and the first one is a perfect example of what can be visualized when reading this scene. But wait after the awkwardness is over we get to the good stuff. Kisses like this …

first kiss

Now I can’t leave without mentioning the incredible cast of misfits that compliment Daniel and Alyx’s throughout their journey. Let’s see we have … one character that seems to always have the greatest one liners that makes you laugh so hard you end up holding your diaphragm and wiping tears from your eyes. Another that has you biting your nails because you aren’t sure whether their plans are nefarious or not when it comes to Daniel and Alyx. Then there is the best love-to-hate character that has you wanting to choke slam him minute but ultimately after some time you clandestinely love and finally there is the one character that from the minute you know about him you instantaneously want to know more.

Final Thoughts

This is the first book I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading by Ms. Long and I absolutely adored it! She has created such an amazing world that I never wanted it to end. I can easily see myself reading Some Like it Royal again and again until Ms. Long creates the next installment. May those stories be just as fun and delicious as Daniel and Alyx’s.
